What It Means To Photograph the Absence of Everything.
I wanted to show an absence so profound it destabilizes the act of seeing—the camera startled not by a subject, but by the absence of all context. Here, the cosmic void is not negative space, but a field where matter is reduced to ghostly, randomized flickers: ultraviolet Lyman-alpha sparks from lone hydrogen atoms, each a microexpression of existence against an endless, vertiginous field of black. This image investigates whether nothingness itself can become visually overwhelming, using improbable flashes to reveal how oppressive and omnipresent cosmic emptiness truly is—disorienting the gaze and making the void itself a disturbing protagonist.
