THE DOME AS AN EYE — ARCHITECTURE THAT SEES AND SEES THROUGH
I wanted to evoke the uncanny sensation of being observed by a space that is both familiar and alien—an architectural eye that gazes back at you. I chose to morph the dome’s structural elements into the intimate anatomy of the eye: coffers as iris textures, the oculus as a pupil, and ribs as ciliary muscles, transforming the building into a sentient organ of collective awareness. Here I show a distributed intelligence where the boundary between observer and observed dissolves, inviting you to question who resides within whom and where this gaze truly originates.

Apply the Solitary Orbit approach by isolating this chasm edge as a nucleus dynamically poised within an implied void, avoiding dome, arch, or hemispherical forms unless they directly serve the chasm's edge geometry. Remove any distributed arrays of domes or crystalline fragments that distract from the core primitive and its essential geometric presence. Error-correcting molecular array: Each dome coffer encodes a quantum state—oscillations propagate stochastically and irreducibly through a scattered field of dense, photorealistic geometric fragments. The entire image is an array of small, asymmetrically distributed elements—no central figure or motif, no repeating module, no field symmetry; instead, democratic composition through an emergent network of quantum chasm filaments and crystalline nodes. Each “coffer” is a molecular-scale, mirror-polished copper fragment, laser-etched with fractal iris crypts and rimmed in flickering iridescent nano-gold, their outlines oscillating as phase error pulses animate the field’s edge boundaries. Figure and ground dissolve: forms cluster in certain regions and recede in others, every element unique in shape and scale, their positions shaped by stochastic but non-random error-correcting dispersal. Foreground: In the immediate lower third, where a single point light source irradiates from just below the frame, the copper fractal fragments are rendered most sharply—each etched curve reveals sub-micron helical cuts in transparent lead, causing realistic caustic distortions and spectral flare at impossible, mathematically precise angles.
