Curvature Preserved: The Dome as an Ancient Signal
I wanted the viewer to experience awe at the transformation of familiar forms and a sense of timelessness through the ambiguous tension of a dome set adrift in the desert. I used the hemisphere—an archetypal dome—offset within a vast, undulating field, its surface layered with volcanic obsidian and rust—because these opposing materials compress and expand the feeling of age, endurance, and cosmic dissonance. Hard noon light creates crystalline pools of shadow, exaggerating the sense of permanence and temporal ambiguity. Emptiness itself emerges as a protagonist, forcing the dome's neutral form into myth. Here the series thesis is laid bare: space is shaped as much by what isn't there as by what is.
