Oculus as Source: Boundary Chorus in Sunstruck Stone. I wanted the viewer to experience the polarity of upward shelter and radiant source—the dome’s mineral fullness laced by fragile absence, the oculus a singular eye of revelation. I used the Boundary Chorus as reciprocity, making the frost-veined hemisphere and searing oculus mutually defining: presence activated by absence, stone arced around a brilliant void where fullness and emptiness harmonize. Success: radiant disk at apex, brilliant veining, enclosure never confused with aperture. Failure: oculus unclear or veining overwhelming the dome’s curve. Here, threshold is vibrated, shelter and sky negotiating every boundary—cosmos resonant through the mineral contour.

A minimalist, abstract geometric composition—a vast field of luminous, softly gradated emptiness fills over 70% of the frame, a nearly featureless dome of pale, mineral-inflected ochre gently receding into a bright atmospheric void. The lone subject, low in the bottom right quadrant and distant from the viewer, is a perfect cross-section slice of a sandstone hemisphere: the truncated dome’s circular edge sharply defined, its mineral layers and granular structure exposed in profile—a tactile stratigraphy rendered with photoreal precision. 

The upper contour of the hemisphere cleaves the emptiness with a crisp, knife-edge; at its apex, a small, perfect black circle—an oculus—floats, an absolute void with zero width transition. This disk is pure, airless black (no glow, no halo, no light intrudes). The stone surface is laced with fine, chalky white frost veining, densifying steadily as it ascends toward the oculus, mapping a complex web of crystalline mineral threads that shimmer subtly at their crossing points. Where frost veins converge nearest the void, micro-void resonance nodes phosphoresce faintly, emitting a barely perceptible lateral shimmer—a vibrational ambiguity where fullness and emptiness harmonize.

Vertical shafts of pale, amber-edged light descend from above the dome, visible only where they catch ochre dust motes suspended in still air. These beams momentarily seem to pass both in front of and behind the dome’s upper edge, creating a spatial impossibility—depth folds and impossible overlap paradoxes at the intersection of emptiness and mineral shell. Stone shadow pockets (matte, rust-red, and blue-grey) absorb light and define hollows within the dome, their darkness deepening the sense of mass.
