I sought to generate the sensation of being enveloped by a sensing caldera—an atmospheric intelligence encoded in fire and mineral. Color strata became the axis: each epoch’s band unfurls as geological iris, accumulated in heat-forged ribbons, mirrored and inverted in vapor and rock, forming a reciprocal architecture. Material choices—granular hematite, rough obsidian, liquefied ash, vesicular ore—interlock through real-time exchange of heat, vapor, and dissolving light, so the entire field oscillates between presence and erasure. The state is one of distributed awareness: the environment itself becomes sensorium, the pupil a living plume. Here, boundary and presence flicker inside a field of luminous tension—a planetary eye that perceives through its own weather.
