The Basalt Eye: Inhuman Iris Under the Vertical Sun. I wanted the viewer to experience the instant when dome becomes eye: that gestalt switch from monumental architecture to living anatomy. The fissured, vitrified coffers and the void oculus above are composed to concentrate the feeling of being looked at—not by a god or a building, but by the land itself, hot and reptilian. As external entropy, I exposed the northwest iris sector to mapped thermal surges; their crack patterns—audited and drone-mapped—create unpredictable lacunae in the pattern. Rupture occurred: in thermal imaging, these glazed hexagons slumped, blackened, and bled iridescence, breaking the simulated order and pushing uncanny recognition into forensic visibility.

**THE PRIMITIVE:**

Its surface is crisply faceted, resembling a fragment of hyperbolically polarized glass — but with no enclosing boundary or centralizing form.  
**Placement:** This plane hovers off-axis in the upper left quadrant, tilted slightly toward the viewer, its acute edges projecting forward and back, occupying the visual “foreground” in scale and intensity.  
_All visual focus, light modulation, and spectral play converge within this one plane._ Secondary structures (see below) echo but do not rival its presence.

**COMPOSITION: MULTI-BODY, OPEN FIELD SCENE**  
- Arrange **three distinct geometric bodies** in active angular dialogue:
  1. **The dominant fractured planar primitive** (see above): upper left, oriented askew, with its sharpest edge slicing into the scene.
  2. **A secondary, parallel sliver**—smaller, positioned lower right, set back in depth, rotated off-axis, creating a dynamic spatial counterpoint. This form “receives” light refracted from the primary, its edges catching a spectral contour.
  3. **An interstitial negative-space shard**—a wedge of pure darkness or ultra-matte void between the two glass planes, defined not by material but by the stark absence—its form visible only by the sharp cut of incident light across its edges.
